Apologue Coffee & Pastry

Apologue Coffee & Pastry is a unique café located in the heart of Binondo, Manila’s historic Chinatown. Opened in October 2023, it stands out as the first real sit-down coffee shop in the area, blending modern café culture with the rich heritage of Binondo. The café’s name, “Apologue,” is inspired by the concept of a moral story featuring animals, reflecting its aim to tell the stories of Binondo through its offerings.

Housed in a former automotive and hardware shop, Apologue retains elements of its historical setting, such as traditional floor tiles and repurposed medicine cabinets. The interior design combines chic library aesthetics with nods to Chinatown culture, featuring framed photos of old Binondo and a map of the district on their coffee cups.

The café is known for its innovative beverages that infuse traditional Binondo flavors. Signature drinks include the Binondo Latte, a blend of ube and sticky rice cake (tikoy), and the Sea Salt Latte, which offers a refreshing twist on classic coffee. Other popular options are the Peanut Cake Latte and Black Sesame Latte.

Complementing the drinks is a selection of house-made pastries, including Ube Cheesecake, Tiramisu, and Snow Skin Mooncakes with flavors like matcha red bean and black sesame. Savory options such as Grilled Cheese Brioche Sandwiches and Shrimp Aglio Olio Pasta are also available.
